What is Private Duty Nursing?

Private duty nursing is a highly specialized type of Home Health Care (“Homecare”) service designed to provide hospital level care to patients with chronic, degenerative, conditions and disorders requiring around-the-clock skilled care provided by RNs or LPNs in the patient's home. Chronic degenerative conditions are long-term illnesses, disorders, or injury that progressively worsen over time, such as cerebral palsy, muscular dystrophy, traumatic brain injuries, seizure disorders, ALS and numerous other rare conditions. Private duty nursing services can help manage both the underlying medical condition as well as the complex interventions required of their care; typically including management & use of one or more assistive medical device (i.e. feeding tube, tracheostomy, central line, home ventilator, etc). prevent complications, and provide emotional support to patients and their families.

Who Qualifies To Receive Private Duty Nursing Services?

Patients who have chronic degenerative conditions that require ongoing medical care and monitoring may benefit from private duty nursing services. These patients may have complex medical needs, require frequent medication management, or need assistance with activities of daily living (ADLs). Private duty nursing services can also provide respite care for family members who are caring for a loved one with a chronic illness.
